Every figure on this page is computed from the inputs entered, by the method stated below it. Monthendly publishes no benchmark close time, no industry average DPO and no accounting standard: the tasks, the minutes, the rate and the exception rate are yours, and the defaults are a worked example to replace with your own figures.

Accounts payable software sits between the invoice arriving and the ledger being posted, and the market for it runs from a shared inbox with rules on it to enterprise platforms costing more than a member of staff. The features converge in the marketing and diverge sharply in practice, and the differences that matter to a small finance team are narrow: whether the exceptions are visible, whether approvers will actually use it, and what it costs when the team grows. This page is how to judge accounts payable software when you close one or two sets of books, and an honest line on where Monthendly sits against the platforms.

Judge it on the exceptions, not the happy path

Every product demos well on an invoice that matches. Ask to see one with a price mismatch, one with no purchase order and one whose approver has left. How those three appear, and how quickly, is what you are actually buying.

Judge it on whether approvers will use it

Approvers are not finance people and will not learn a system. If approving requires a login they do not have and a screen they have not seen, invoices will be approved by email anyway and you will have bought a filing cabinet.

Judge it on what the fifth seat costs

Per-user pricing shapes behaviour: teams delay giving access and end up sharing logins, which is the real control failure. A flat price removes the question. Monthendly is $43 a month for the whole team, which is also its ceiling, because a twenty-entity group needs a platform instead.

Accounts payable software: common questions

Do we need AP software, or just a better process?

Write the process down first. If the route is unclear, software will encode the confusion. If the route is clear and the cost is in the touches, the free approval worksheet on this site will tell you what that cost is before you spend anything.

Will it replace our accounting software?

No. Monthendly sits beside your ledger and does not keep one. If you need to post transactions, run a trial balance or file accounts, that is your accounting package and we do not compete with it.

What about approving on a phone?

That is usually the deciding feature for adoption, because approvers are rarely at a desk when the close needs them. Whatever you buy, test it as an approver on a phone before you test it as a finance user.
